Modern Marvels

As Christmas approaches, my family, along with thousands of others, places those wonderful candles in our windows. Now, back in the winter of '23, we managed to procure some of those fancy electrical ones. Since then, our house has burned down a lot less. A few years ago however, my mother went to the Christmas store and bought us these fancy candles that turn on and off by themselves when it gets dark! Now, I am sure that you too are now gasping audibly, demanding to know what this witchcraft devilry is. Did my mother sell her soul to Lucifer so that we would not have to plug and unplug these contraptions nightly? She assures me she did not (That being said, I still have my doubts).
Now, in the past few days, being the cool cat that I am, I have been sitting at the same chair as night falls. I have come to note that this automatic candle contraption turns on at a point a few minutes before complete darkness sets in. When the light goes on, it stays on. It does not teeter between on-ness and off-ness, wrestling with itself as to what is the best light level at which to seize the moment, it simply goes on. No hesitation. Is there a definitive point at which the neighborhood gets to dark? One moment off, the next on. I refuse to believe that the darkness of my street follows a linear progression- that a second after that instant it will never be as light as it was the prior. I would think that after going on, it would have to blink once or twice. Yet, it does not. How in the hell is that possible?

I have a feeling that the brilliance of this post was lost in its manifestation.

(get it? brilliance, brightness + darkness theme)
